Visakhapatnam: Gollapalli, Tadakapalli and Pebbempalli villages in the Ammavari Dharakonda panchayat of Gudenkottaveedhi mandal in ASR district are facing a severe outbreak of fevers.

Many tribal inhabitants of these villages have been bedridden with fever for the past four days. They require urgent medical assistance. No medical assistance has reached them yet, despite pleas to the area’s health authorities.

Area people say 10 patients in Gollapalli, six in Tadakapalli and eight in Pebbempalli villages are in a critical condition due to severe fever and unable to move. The villages fall within the jurisdiction of Sapparla Primary Health Centre (PHC). To reach the PHC, villagers have to journey over 30 kilometres.

However, the RV Nagar PHC is located just 10 kilometres away. So patients from the three villages chose to walk despite fever to the RV Nagar PHC. The villagers complain that the doctor at the facility did not thoroughly examine them. Instead, a staff nurse administered paracetamol tablets and sent them away. They say no one took their blood for testing.

A villager said they got a shoddy treatment at the RV Nagar PHC as their villages do not come under its purview.

When Deccan Chronicle contacted district medical and health officer Jamal Basha, he maintained that medical camps have been started in the three villages and those ill are being treated.

“The patients are suffering from fever due to viral infections. None of them have malaria,” Jamal Basha remarked.
