Twin systems likely to bring rain to AP

Visakhapatnam: Twin systems in the Bay of Bengal are likely to bring rain to the state for the next two to three days, said a private weather website Skymet on Thursday.

It said the low-pressure area over the Southwest Bay of Bengal had weakened slightly. However, the cyclonic circulation of the system persists in the lower levels. Also, there is a north-south trough, a weak one, along the coastal parts of North Tamil Nadu and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Under the influence of these two systems, coastal parts of North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh will witness moderate to heavy rainfall over the next two days.

Heavy rainfall confined to south coastal Andhra Pradesh in the past 24 hours. Kavali and Ongole recorded 67mm and 63mm of rainfall.

Active northeast monsoon conditions are likely over Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and south interior of Karnataka, for the next 48 hours. Light weather activity will continue. A few heavy spells are likely over Bapatla, Kavali, Ongole, Nellore, Sriharikota, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tambaram, Puducherry, Cuddalore and Karaikal in the next 48 hours. Broad clearance is expected over the region after November 18, the report added.

Among the other centres, Atmakur (SPSR Nellore) reported 5.1cm rainfall, Penagaluru (Annamaya district) 5.9 cm and Kandukur (SPSR Nellore) 4.8 cm.
