Visakhapatnam's 78th Independence Day Marks Patriotism and Progress

VISHAKHAPATNAM: The 78th Independence Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam were marked by grandeur and patriotic fervor here on Thusday. The event took place at the Police Barracks grounds where revenue minister Angani Satya Prasad unfurled the national flag amidst a backdrop of saluting police forces and a band playing the national anthem.

Minister Satyaprasad paid homage to martyrs who sacrificed their lives for India's independence. He emphasized that true freedom is achieved when every individual in society enjoys equality, access to education, healthcare, and is liberated from poverty.
The minister expressed concern over the growing issue of drug addiction among youths, particularly with substances like ganja. He urged everyone to work together to eradicate drug abuse and build a drug-free India. He specifically called upon youth, who hold the potential to shape the future, to steer clear of drugs and participate actively in grassroots efforts to combat this menace.
The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, mentioning that the tourism sector would be developed with these priorities in mind. He recalled the resilience shown by the Chief Minister during the Hudhud cyclone when Visakhapatnam was severely impacted, commending his dedication to restoring the city.
The celebrations were marked by vibrant performances, including acrobatics, march pasts by police security forces, NCC cadets, and scout students, as well as cultural programs by students from various schools. A standout feature of the event was a 60-foot three-pointed flag displayed by students of BVK College, which captivated the audience.
Minister Satyaprasad presented certificates of appreciation to 416 officers and staff from different departments in the district, as well as students who excelled in competitions focused on biodiversity and the Nasha Mukta Bharat Abhiyan. Additionally, medals were awarded to police personnel who showed exceptional performance.
