Vizag Hosts Guinness World Record Crochet Event

A Guinness record typically requires 20,000 crocheted squares. However, the Visakhapatnam group made 58,112 squares, setting a new Guinness World Record.(DC)

 Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam hosted a Guinness World Records event wherein 450 people of all age groups joined forces to accomplish a global record-breaking feat.

They collectively assembled an astounding 58,112 crochet squares in the shortest time, earning recognition from a representative of the Guinness World Records for achieving the “Largest Display of Crochet Squares”.

Mayak Kumari Deo, former convenor of Intech Visakhapatnam, was the chief guest at the event, while Dr. Renuka Rani, secretary of Crafts Council of Andhra Pradesh, was the guest of honour.

Swapnil Dangarikar, a representative from Guinness World Records London, presented a certificate to Madhavi Suribhatla, the driving force behind the endeavour. Swapnil mentioned that a Guinness record typically requires 20,000 crocheted squares. However, the group made 58,112 squares, setting a new Guinness World Record.

Madhavi mentioned that the record-breaking group consisted of girls as young as six years and women as old as 86 years.
