Mangaluru: Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced plans to establish 10-bed chemotherapy daycare centers in district hospitals across Karnataka, including at Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru.
Speaking to reporters after visiting Government Wenlock and Lady Goschen Hospitals in Mangaluru, the Minister stated, “The scheme will be inaugurated soon by the Chief Minister, with the date to be finalized after discussions.”
Highlighting the need for modernization, the Minister noted that several sections of the Dakshina Kannada District Wenlock Hospital are outdated. Efforts are underway to revamp the hospital, including the construction of new buildings for key departments.
A new OPD block is a priority for Wenlock Hospital. As per a 2017 agreement, the block will be constructed by KMC Hospital at an estimated cost of Rs 24 crore. “Discussions with KMC representatives will be held to finalize the plan,” he added.
The hospital also requires facilities such as a mortuary building, a nursing college building, a kitchen, a skywalk connecting two buildings, and a paramedical block. These upgrades are projected to cost Rs 10 crore.
“To fund these projects, partial funding will be provided by the department, while additional resources will be mobilized through CSR initiatives and other sources. Once these developments are completed, the hospital will have a completely new look. A final decision is expected by January,” the Minister said.
