Haveri: Haveri MP and Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has accused the state government of underreporting dengue deaths to hide its failures.
Speaking to reporters in Shiggaon on Saturday, Bommai said "People are leaving Haveri for proper treatment in Davangere and Hubballi."
Bommai criticized the government for not making adequate arrangements despite his earlier warnings about the rising dengue cases.
"Haveri has the highest number of dengue deaths in the state. The District Health Officer should be replaced immediately with a capable one, ensuring no patient is denied proper treatment," he urged. Bommai also called on the government to utilize ASHA workers to raise awareness about dengue.
In another allegation, Bommai accused the state government of misusing funds meant for SC/ST communities. He claimed that funds intended for these communities are being diverted to guarantee schemes.
"The state government's bankruptcy is evident in every step, from increasing fuel prices to reallocating SC/ST funds. Rs 14,000 crore meant for SC/ST communities is being diverted to guarantees," Bommai said. He accused the Congress of using SC/ST funds for vote-bank schemes, contrary to legal requirements.
Bommai criticized the misuse of Valmiki Corporation funds and accused the government of betraying SC/ST and OBC communities.
Discussing his recent meetings with Union Ministers, Bommai mentioned his discussions with Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
He highlighted his efforts to address regional demands and infrastructure projects, including a new railway line at Ranebennur via Shikaripura in Shivamogga and the Yalavigi Gadag rail project.
