Bengaluru: Over its alleged attempts to destabilize the Congress party led State Government in Karnataka, General Secretary of All India Congress Committee and incharge of party affairs in Karnataka K.C. Venugopal on Sunday cautioned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central leaders should bear in mind that the time has changed in 2024 for the party and the BJP government at the Centre is not as strong as it was in 2014 and 2019.

Venugopal told reporters after a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru over the recent political developments particularly after a show cause notice on July 26 to Chief Minister was served by Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot over illegal plot allotments to Siddaramaiah’s wife by Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

He asserted the Congress party will wage a legal battle over the conspiracy to bring down the Congress Government in Karnataka and stated “Congress is not scared of waging a legal battle against the conspiracy.” Venugopal said “Let them go legally” instead of launching an attack on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on a daily basis thereby creating a perception of destabilizing the State Government.

Accusing the Governor of being a “tool” of the conspiracy by BJP and its ally Janata Dal Secular (JDS), Venugopal termed the action of Governor as “unfortunate” and issues have been raked up by BJP and JDS against Chief Minister and the Congress government with the sole of destabilizing the government.

The AICC general secretary said both the parties have conspired against the Chief Minister and Congress government under the fear that their prospects has been damaged after the implementation of the 5-guarantee schemes of the State Government of the Congress government such as free travel for women in State run buses, Rs 2,000 cash benefit for female head of a family, free power upto 200 units per family among others. Moreover, JDS and BJP feared that their chances were further dented after cases against JDS former Lok Sabha Prajwal Revanna were registered over sexual exploitation of women.

In order to save their children, he suspected both JDS and BJP hatched a conspiracy against the Chief Minister and Congress government. “It is the biggest joke” that State president of BJP B.Y. Vijayendra is attacking the Chief Minister thinking that he is a “decent” person and stated “How many cases does Vijayendra and Prajwal Revanna have against them?”

He pointed out BJP’s success in bringing down the JDS-Congress party coalition government in Karnataka in 2019 over the conspiracy of BJP Central leaders.

Criticising Union Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitaraman, Venugopal said “Nobody is talking about the discrimination meted out by Karnataka in the Union budget. None of the MPs of the State raised their voice in the Parliament over the discrimination.”

“Karnataka drew a blank in the budget,” he said and stated Nirmala Sitaraman is elected to Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.

He praised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of being an honest person in politics and stated Siddaramaiah has been struggling to keep running the 5-guarantees to the people without any assistance from the Central Government.
