IIIT-Bangalore Earns UGC 12B Status for Academic Excellence

BENGALURU: The University Grants Commission (UGC) accorded 12B status to International Institute of Information Technology-Bangalore (IIIT-Bangalore) making the Institute enter into an elite group of institutions recognized for their academic excellence and research capabilities. The UGC granted the status to IIIT-Bangalore, situated in Electronics City, under section 12 of the UGC Act, 1956 for its academic excellence, innovative research and global standards.

Sharing the news of the status accorded to IIIT-Bangalore, Director Prof Debabrata Das on Friday termed the status of 12B to IIIT-Bangalore a “significant milestone in the journey of the Institute” and said the status of 12B to IIIT-Bangalore made the Institute eligible to receive financial assistance to further advance research endeavours particularly in specialized and emerging fields such as translatable research.

“It is an achievement of IIIT-Bangalore for its relentless pursuit of excellence, pedagogy and world class research initiatives,” said the Director adding the status will further bolster the ongoing research initiatives by Institute’s faculty and students.

The status of 12B to IIIT-Bangalore also brings in numerous benefits such as Central Government funding for research and development initiatives, enabling IIIT-Bangalore to pursue cutting edge research projects, research grants and faculty development opportunities, scholarship for students and infrastructure to provide a world-class learning environment, International collaborations and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation to pave way for global partnerships and recognition among others.
