 Vijayapura: Three people were killed and about four injured in an accident near Kuntoji village of Muddebihal Taluk, about 80 km from the district headquarters around midnight on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Muddebihal-Talikoti state highway around 11.30 pm when a speeding motorcycle plowed into a group of pedestrians attending the Basaveshwara Jatre- the temple festival.

The religious and cultural events at the event had drawn a large number of villagers.

Police told Deccan Chronicle that Ningaraj, who was riding the motorcycle with Anil as a pillion, lost control and collided with 6-7 pedestrians.

As a result, Ningaraj, Anil, and a pedestrian Uday Kumar died. Several others were injured, with one person in critical condition currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bagalkot.

A case has been registered and further investigations are underway.

Earlier, there were rumors that the incident was caused by wheeling, but police have confirmed that rash driving was the actual cause.
