Mangaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a drop in minimum temperatures across some of the North Karnataka districts over the next three days.
The IMD has predicted a fall of 6-7°C below normal in Bidar, Bijapur, and Kalburgi districts, and a 4-5°C drop in Yadgir, Raichur, and Bagalkote districts.
In South Interior Karnataka, temperatures are expected to fall by 2-3°C from normal for the next three days, after which temperatures will gradually rise. Coastal Karnataka, however, will experience little to no change in minimum temperatures.
As the cold wave is expected to impact the region, the Yadgir district administration has urged residents to take precautions, particularly those planning to walk before sunrise or after sunset. Public health and safety guidelines recommend staying indoors during these hours to avoid exposure to the extreme cold.
The administration has also advised residents in rural areas, especially farmers, to refrain from unnecessary travel on two-wheelers due to the expected chilly winds. Parents have been urged to keep children indoors to ensure their safety during the cold spell.
The administration has cautioned farmers against staying out in the fields during the night or undertaking agricultural activities during the day under harsh conditions. If work is unavoidable, farmers are advised to wear warm clothing, including sweaters, jackets, woolen caps, and gloves. To protect crops from the cold winds, the agriculture department has recommended the application of Planofix at a rate of 0.5 ml per liter of water to safeguard rabi crops.
