VIJAYAPURA: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate Karnataka government's ambitious "Knowledge Health Innovation Research-City" (KHIR-City) project on September 26.

Minister for Large and Medium Industries MB Patil announced on Sunday that the Chief Minister will launch the works for the 1st phase of the project at the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha.

Touted as the first of its kind in the country, the KHIR-City will span approximately 2,000 acres, with an estimated investment of over ₹40,000 crore, and is expected to create around 1 lakh direct and indirect jobs. The first phase of development will cover 500 acres.

The Minister said the project draws inspiration from international models such as Singapore's Biopolis, Research Triangle Park, Science Park, KBIC, and the Boston Innovation Cluster. The development will also incorporate elements from Bengaluru's Hi-tech City and Electronics City. Located between Doddaballapur and Dobaspet, about 50 km from Kempegowda International Airport, KHIR-City aims to blend global innovation with local expertise.

The government has formed an advisory committee comprising eminent personalities such as Dr. Devi Shetty, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Prashanth Prakash, Thomas Osha, Ron Kimball, Mohandas Pai, and Nikhil Kamath, to ensure the timely progress of the project. The city will be designed to accommodate a residential density of 100 people per acre, Patil added.

Patil stated that the KHIR-City is expected to significantly contribute to the state's economy and boost exports, positioning Bengaluru for greater global prominence.

“The city will be home to world-class universities, hospitals, innovative industries, and research institutions, which will serve as the cornerstone of this visionary project,” he added.
