Haveri: Haveri MP and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has alleged that the transfer of Rs 2,000 to women’s accounts under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, just before every election, constitutes a violation of the election code of conduct. He demanded that the Election Commission halt this practice immediately.
In a press statement on Tuesday, Bommai said that elections should be conducted freely and fairly, yet the state government is allegedly using public funds to serve its political interests before each election, which he condemned as "highly objectionable."
He accused the Election Commission and Haveri district officials of ignoring the issue and called for swift intervention.
According to Bommai, it is evident that government funds are being misused for election purposes. He also criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, stating, “While he often speaks of democracy and the Constitution, he is allowing the entire government to engage in political corruption using public funds.”
