BENGALURU: Mangaluru City Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the stone-pelting incident at MLC Ivan D’Souza’s residence. While there has been no official confirmation, it is said that the two arrested have affiliation with a saffron outfit.

The incident occurred last week when unidentified people on a motorcycle threw stones at D’Souza’s house and escaped from the spot.

A special investigation team led by ACP Central was formed to apprehend the culprits. Working on information provided by eyewitnesses, reviewing CCTV footage and verifying vehicle details the police have now arrested two persons.

Bharat alias Yakshith (age 24) and Dinesh Kurthamogeru (age 20), were arrested. Bharat, son of Raghava Bhandari, residing in Narayan Kodi House, Bolantoor Village, Bantwal Taluk, and working as a driver, has three prior assault cases against him. Dinesh, son of Anand Poojari, residing in Parthipadi House, Kolnadu Village, Bantwal Taluk, and working in finance collection at Kanyana, has one prior case of assault.

Police said that during interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime, citing anger over the statements made by Sri Ivan D'Souza as the motive behind their actions. They revealed that after having dinner at Frish Crown Hotel around 9.30 pm, they impulsively decided to throw stones at the house of Ivan D'Souza.

“Further investigations, including the verification of their movements through CCTV footage and mobile records, have independently confirmed their involvement in the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and appropriate legal action is being taken,” City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal said.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Ivan D’Souza said that he had learned the accused were affiliated with a saffron outfit.

"I have urged the police to thoroughly investigate the incident and uncover the truth. The two youths involved are from Bantwal, and the police should also see if there is any conspiracy," he stated.
