Thiruvananthapuram: The meeting of a high-ranking police officer with RSS national leaders over a year ago has now sparked a political controversy in Kerala, with the opposition Congress accusing the CPM of collusion with the Sangh Parivar in the state.

While the CPM state leadership has played down the issue, CPI national general secretary A. Raja has called for a thorough investigation into the reasons behind the police officer's meeting with the RSS leaders. CPM leader and Kerala Assembly Speaker A N Shamsheer, however, felt there is nothing inappropriate in individuals meeting with the leaders of the country’s prominent organisations like the RSS.

ADGP M R Ajith Kumar had meetings with RSS General Secretary Hosabale Dattatreya and Ram Madhav in separate events in Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram, respectively. Opposition Leader V D Satheeshan, who brought the issue into the public domain for the first time recently, alleged that the ADGP met the RSS leaders at the behest of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

A group of CPM leaders in the state, including LDF Convenor T P Ramakrishnan, have stated that the government will investigate the issue. CPM politburo member A Vijayaraghavan mentioned that the chief minister and the state government are well-equipped to scrutinize the matter and take appropriate action.

The encounter between Ajith Kumar and Dattatreya Hosabale occurred at the RSS study camp in Thrissur, which was conducted from May 12 to May 27, 2023. The police officer met with the RSS leader on May 22, facilitated by his childhood friend and RSS Sampark Pramukh Jayakumar.

Details of the meeting, where a police officer met with Ram Madhav during a conclave organized by a national media outlet in Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram, emerged just the other day.

Interestingly, the police officer eschewed his official vehicle for these visits and arrived at the venue in transportation provided by the RSS.

This action ignited significant controversy as a ruling front MLA, P V Anvar, levelled grave accusations against the ADGP, alleging collusion with gold smuggling gangs, involvement in murder cases, and the tapping of telephones belonging to ministers, politicians, and media personnel. Consequently, the government commissioned a high-level investigation by the SIT, led by the DGP, into the allegations directed at the ADGP.
