Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government has ordered a high-level probe into the controversial meeting of ADGP (Law and Order ) M R Ajith Kumar with RSS leaders Dattatreya Hosabale and Ram Madhav.

DGP Shaik Darvesh Saheb has been asked to probe the matter.

Earlier, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had stated that the ADGP's meeting with RSS leaders would be probed. The government will take action if the probe finds that the officer had gone against the norms laid down for officials.

Initially, the government hesitated to initiate a probe into the incident, which opposition leader V D Satheeshan brought to public attention over two weeks ago. The Congress-led UDF accused the ADGP of meeting with RSS leaders at the chief minister's behest.

Furthermore, Satheeshan claimed that the CPM aimed to diminish the Congress in Kerala with the Sangh Parivar's assistance and elevate the BJP as the state's major political force.

The Chief Minister refuted the Congress's allegations at a press conference last week. Pinarayi Vijayan recalled the unsavory coalition formed between Congress and BJP during the 1991 elections, in which senior police officer Jariam Padikal served as the intermediary. The officer's biography also mentions the political tasks he undertook during that period.

Amidst demands from CPI and RJD, partners of the ruling LDF, for an investigation into the ADGP's meetings with RSS leaders, the pressure had increased on the Chief Minister to scrutinize the matter. The ADGP's decision to forgo his official vehicle for these meetings on two distinct occasions has cast suspicion on his motives.

Left leaders have also voiced concerns about the potential implications of what might have occurred during these meetings.

CPI National General Secretary D. Raja had called for an investigation to determine the reasons behind the ADGP's secretive meeting with RSS leaders.

Meanwhile, CPM State Secretary M.V. Govindan stated that if the police officer's meeting with RSS leaders is deemed a violation of the prescribed norms for officials, appropriate action will be taken.
