Visakhapatnam: A woman with disability in a live-in relationship has been coerced by her partner into begging.

M. Padmavati, aged 53, is receiving a disability pension from the government. She owns a house in Kancharapalem, Visakhapatnam. Despite this, her partner forced her to beg at the Visakhapatnam railway station and confiscated her earnings.

Her plight became public during a joint rescue operation launched by Vizag Railway Protection Force and Association for Urban and Tribal Development (AUTD).

Authorities initially moved Padmavati from the railway station to the GVMC Mahila Ashram near the RTC Complex.

Subsequently, P. Vasu, administrator of AUTD, personally investigated Padmavati's circumstances and visited her residence in Kancharapalem to verify facts.

Vasu told Deccan Chronicle that he confronted Padmavati’s live-in partner and uncovered the truth. He then ensured her safe return to her Kancharapalem residence, warning her partner against coercing her into begging under any circumstances.
