Hyderabad: The Telangana Deputy Collectors Association has welcomed the initiative taken by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy to place the Record of Rights, 2024 for discussion in the public domain.

Speakers also lauded the services of Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) Naveen Mittal.

Sunil Kumar, member of the Dharani committee which drafted the Bill, said it was prepared after studying and adopting positive aspects in similar legislation in 18 states. “The Bill has been prepared keeping the needs of the next 10 to 20 years. A farmer is assured of full rights over the land if he or she has possession of the land, its document and if the name reflects in the land record (pahani),” he said.

He informed that even non-agriculture land holdings will get records henceforth. The new law will be in line with the land laws being brought by the Centre and changes occurring in the country. Suggestions and advice on the draft were welcome, Sunil Kumar said.

V. Latchi Reddy, association president, said the new law will strengthen the revenue system and be helpful to farmers. “A new law became necessary to provide better services by strengthening land administration at the local level. The draft has been kept in the public domain to facilitate discussions. The erstwhile government didn’t consider the opinions of the people. We were given complete freedom by the government. Problems will be solved at the local level with the new law. The days of having a revenue official at the village level will be back soon.”
