Hyderabad: Thursday’s Supreme Court verdict on SC sub-classification of Scheduled Castes led to a celebratory atmosphere across the city.

Jubilant supporters took out a rally, burst firecrackers and showered petals on their respective leaders.

As soon as the news broke out, supporters and MRPS cadre rushed to the party office where apart from cutting a cake cutting, they poured milk on the photo of their leader Manda Krishan Madiga. Many of them traced the history of the three-decade movement.

There was a massive celebration at Ramnagar chowrasta and near the Babu Jagjivan Ram statue at Basheerbagh.

Govind Naresh Madiga, MRPS state secretary, said, “this is a historic day for us. Justice has been delivered to the six decades old battle.”

Dappu Mallikarjun Madiga, MRPS, spokesperson said, “Our leader is in Delhi. Once he returns to the city, we will have another round of celebrations.”

Meanwhile, there was speculation that the judgment could lead to postponement of the job recruitment process. However, many supporters explained that it would not do so.

According to sociologist Dr Ch. Parandamulu, “this judgment has to be welcomed as there was injustice for several decades in jobs and education for Madigas and Malas. One should acknowledge the pivotal role played by Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who implemented categorisation in undivided Andhra Pradesh from 2000 to 2004.”

Koka Charan Mourya, research scholar belonging to the Madiga community, said, “it’s a victory for all of us. I can recall that in 2004 Krishna Madiga was in tears after the Supreme Court’s judgment. Today, he is celebrating. This is social justice.”

Ellerla Sudhakar, national secretary, Madiga Student Federation, said, “There will not be any disturbance to the job recruitment process. The assigned reservations will be divided.”
