CM listens to orations, inaugurates schemes

Chennai:Surprising the party leaders and functionaries and common people, Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin sat through the fiery speeches of a few young orators who were enunciating on the welfare schemes of the present government and explaining the party’s history at an event organized by the DMK’s Chennai East district at a public grounds in Kolathur Assembly constituency on Friday.

While the main speaker was DK’s deputy general secretary Mathivathani, the event saw two young speakers who were among the 100 orators chosen by the DMK’s youth wing through a competition held at various levels to identify 100 most effective speakers for the party out of the 17,000 aspirants

The competitions were held at multiple levels with 78 Judges shortlisting 182 orators, who spoke on the title ‘En Uyirinum Melana’ (More Than My Life), out of whom 100 were finally chosen as party speakers. Two of them, Gokul and Raja Rajeswari, were asked to speak on Friday in Kolathur.

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated 754 classrooms and 17 laboratories constructed at a total cost of Rs 171.16 core in 141 government schools located in 29 districts across the State through video conference from the Secretariat.

At the event organized by the School Education Department, Stalin also handed over appointment orders to 5 of the 49 descendants of employees who died in harness. Of the beneficiaries, 43 were selected as assistants and nine as typists on humanitarian grounds.

Appointment orders were also given away to 20 of the total 246 candidates selected through TNPSC that conducted the Combined Engineering Service Examination for recruitment as assistant engineers in the departments of water drainage board, PWD, Highways and small ports and MSMEs.

State Minister for Health and Family Welfare M Subramanian presented before Stalin two awards won by the State. One award was given to the State for the year 2024 by the United Nation Interagency Task Force for the implementation of Chief Minister’s welfare scheme, ‘Makallai Thedi Maruthuvam’ (Healthcare at the doorstep).

The second award was given to the State for coming second in the Food Security Index at the Global Food Regulators Summit-2024 at New Delhi on September 20. The State had been coming in the first three ranks on the food security index for the past three consecutive years, an official press release said.

The recognition was for the State government’s efforts to ensure that quality and safe food was provided to the people.

The Chief Minister also presented the Kalaignar M Karunanidhi Chemmozhi Tamil Award to retired professor of Madras University, M Selvarasan, for his research work. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a certificate of appreciation and a bronze statuette of M Karunanidhi.
