Mud Hurled at TN Minister Ponmudy During Flood Relief, Triggers Political Row
Tamil Nadu Forest Minister K. Ponmudy faced an unexpected and controversial incident on Tuesday when unidentified individuals hurled mud at him and his entourage during a visit to a village in the district to distribute flood relief. The minister, who is also a senior leader of the DMK, described the act as "politically motivated," pointing fingers at opponents for trying to disrupt the government’s welfare efforts.
The incident occurred as Ponmudy and officials were overseeing the distribution of relief materials to flood-affected residents. Eyewitnesses reported sudden chaos as mud was flung, forcing the minister’s security team to intervene. No injuries were reported, and police are investigating to identify the culprits.
Reacting sharply, Ponmudy accused certain political groups of orchestrating the disruption to tarnish the government’s image. "This is not an isolated incident but a deliberate attempt to politicize flood relief and discredit the DMK," he alleged.
Meanwhile, BJP Tamil Nadu state president K Annamalai seized the moment to criticize the ruling party. "This incident reflects the current state of affairs in Tamil Nadu under DMK rule," Annamalai said, adding that growing dissatisfaction among people is becoming evident.
The mud-slinging—both literal and metaphorical—has added fuel to the ongoing political rivalry between the DMK and BJP. While the DMK claims it is tirelessly working for the welfare of people affected by recent floods, opposition parties argue that public frustration with governance is reaching its peak.
The incident has sparked widespread debate on social media, with supporters and critics of both parties exchanging barbs. Authorities have promised to take strict action against those responsible, as the district braces for further political sparring in the aftermath of the flood crisis.
