Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin inaugurated an IT Park, constructed at a cost of Rs 158.32 crore at Vilankurichi in Coimbatore, met goldsmiths, gold jewel manufacturers and sellers and also reviewed the progress of the construction of a workers’ hostel inside the Kurichi SIDCO industrial estate as part of his engagements on the first day of his visit to the industrial city on Tuesday.

The IT Park, spread out in 2.94 lakh space, was developed by the Information Technology and Digital Services Department with Integrated Building Management System with facilities to accommodate small, medium and large companies and the Chief Minister handed over allotment letters for IT and ITES firms that would provide 3500 jobs.

The government was developing IT Parks in the State since the role of IT and ITES industries in speeding up economic growth was tremendous. The ELCOT SEZ would bridge the gap between urban and rural people in the use of information technology.

Office bearers of a plethora of association of goldsmiths, gold jewellery makers and jewelry shop owners of Coimbatore met Stalin and placed a demand for the construction of Jewelry park in the city that had 2000 organised jewelry making units and 40,000 cottage industries of gold jewelry makers, employing 1,50,000 people.

The gold jewelry units lacked security and were unable to scale up their production due to various factors that prompted them to call on the Chief Minister and seek his help in improving their lifestyle. Stalin also visited a gold workshop in Kempatti Colony to understand their problem.

Stalin also visited the workers’ hostel that is being built inside the SIDCO industrial estate at a cost of Rs 23 crore. The three storied building is being raised on a 1.49 acre land. Spread out in 98,812 square feet space, the hostel has all facilities to accommodate 111 528 workers in its 111 rooms.

After reviewing the work on the building for which the foundation was laid on August 25, 2022, by the Chief Minister, during a regional conference organized by the MSME department at Tiruppur to give a ‘helping shoulder to workers,’ Stalin urged the officials to expedite the work.
