Chennai:Denying allegations by opposition leaders that vacancies in government departments were not being filled up, the State came up with statistics to claim that 68,037 youth have been given government jobs and 5,08,005 persons were employed in the private sector in the last three years.

Referring to Chief Minister M K Stalin announcement on Independence Day that 75,000 youth would get employment in two years, the release said that it would be done as promised and the preparatory work for it was on.

As far as vacancies for Group 4 jobs were concerned the government had been filling them up regularly without fail. In fact, more candidates were being recruited every year than the number of vacancies for which applications are called for based on the position at the time of issuing the advertisement, it said.

After calling for 9351, 6491 and 7301 applications, 11,949, 9684 and 10,130 recruitments were made. Similarly in the present year, though the declared vacancies were only 6244, the actual number had already gone up to 6724 and was likely to increase when the recruitment happened, the release said.

Above all this, the government, under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme, had provided skill training to 27,73,847 youth enabling them to land jobs in the private sector, it said.
