NTK Functionary Sexually Assaults Child at Fake NCC Camp in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and 12 other school girls were abused by a functionary of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), masquerading as a National Cadet Corps (NCC) trainer, and his associates at a fake NCC camp they had organized at a private school in Shoolagiri of Krishnagiri district from August 5 to 8.
With the news sending shock waves across Tamil Nadu, officers from the NCC descended on the school premises for an enquiry while it is intriguing as to how the school management was hoodwinked to believe that conducting the camp would qualify for the school to have an NCC unit that it did not have by the NTK’s Krishnagiri East district secretary Sivaraman.
It is believed that the group, which included a retired sub-inspector of the CRPF, had also held similar camps in two other schools in Shoolagiri and showed photographs of the training given to students there when they mooted the proposal for the camp, which perhaps made the school authorities not have a background check.
As part of the training at the fake camp, the 41 participants, 19 of them girls, were made to function as guards of the school on two shifts and the sexual assault of the eight class girl had happened in one such session.
Though she complained to the school principal, Satishkumar, the matter was covered up with the help of a few teachers and the correspondent, Samson Wesley, all of whom have been arrested and charged under the POCSO Act.
It was for the father of the girl to approach the police on Friday with the complaint that led to the arrest of 11 persons and the investigations that revealed the abuse of 13 other girls. Police are also checking if similar sexual assaults had happened in the other schools whose authorities were also taken for a ride by the fake trainers.
