Hyderabad: Of the 2,166 structures found encroaching onto the Musi river catchment area, marking of over 1,000 structures was completed by Thursday for demolition and the entire process is likely to be completed by Friday, officials said.

In Hyderabad, which has 1,595 structures, marking of 941 structures was completed by Thursday.

In the Medchal Malkajgiri district which has 239 structures and Ranga Reddy district with 332 structures most of the structures have been marked too, said an official from the revenue department.

The officials first checked whether the people staying there were property owners or tenants.

From the property owners, they collected details including Aadhaar, age, caste and other details who will be allotted 2-BHK (two bedroom-house kitchen) houses, according to officials. After convincing them that they will get houses, they wrote ‘RB-X’ with red paint on the walls.

“RB stands for river bed and X indicates that the house has been marked,” said an official who visited the households in Hyderabad district.

He further said that they convinced the people that they will be given a 2BHK house and only then marked their house.

This task in the city was executed by 16 teams of Hyderabad district, five each of Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.

Each team consisted of a tahsildar, revenue inspector (RI), surveyor, GHMC official and a police official each in addition to their personnel.

Saidabad, Nampally, Amberpet, Asifnagar, Uppal, Gandipet and Rajendranagar are some among several mandals where the structures were marked for demolition.

At most of their places the task of marking the structures was done peacefully with police personnels being present but at a few places including at Kothapet, the situation turned tense with locals objecting. However, the situation was brought under control by police.
