Hyderabad: Revenue officials on Saturday demolished 14 structures in Kokapet, some of them illegal floors under construction and others temporary sheds in Survey No. 147. An official said land belonged to the government, and the buildings encroached on portions of a nala.

“No pattas were granted for the land. All these illegal structures have surfaced recently. A builder took permission for a G+3 structure and built a G+6 building. The illegal floors were demolished,” a revenue department official said. “The sheds were raised in an attempt to encroach on government land,” he added.

Protesters at the site claimed that the officials were not demolishing the encroachments belonging to the rich and influential. They claimed that they had regularisation documents for their structures. A protester was seen yelling at the officials, asking them to demolish all the illegal constructions on the nalas.

Officials at the demolition site said that there were other illegal constructions in the area. “We have asked them to voluntarily remove the encroachments. If they fail to do so another demolition drive will be taken up soon,” said an official from the revenue department.
