With new criminal laws in force, and as a measure to contain the growing bikers’ menace on the city roads, Madhapur police seized 18 bikes and booked cases against the riders, who were all in the 27-30 years age-group, under the new law. The police action came during a special drive conducted at the SLN terminus U-turn in Gachibowli on Monday afternoon. This is the first case registered under the new law in Madhapur police station.

The police have booked case under section 125 of the BNS Act. The punishment includes fine up to `1,000 or six months imprisonment.

According to police, the bikers were driving on the wrong side, posing a danger to themselves and others on the road.

“However we intercepted them and took control of the situation,” said Madhapur inspector N. Krishna Mohan.

The police have appealed to the public to report any such incidents and help them keep the roads safe. They warned that stern action would be taken against those found indulging in such dangerous activities.

The seized bikes will be released after the owners pay the fine and furnish a valid driving license.
