22.5 lakh houses in T for poor in five years: Ponguleti

Hyderabad: State revenue, housing, information and public relations Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said Indiramma housing scheme will receive impetus in the ensuing budget. He informed that every eligible person will get a home.

In a review meeting on the housing sector, the minister said, “Providing a roof over the heads of people is as important as food. The ministry has targeted construction of 22.50 lakh Indiramma houses in the next five years. In the first phase at 3,500 houses per assembly constituency 4,16,500 houses will be constructed. Of them 33,500 will be given to the reserved categories. A request for the required Rs 22,500 crores has been sent to the finance ministry in a meeting with Bhatti Vikramarka.”

Owning a house has become a mirage for the poor in the last ten years. The Indiramma houses given by the previous Congress governments who allow the poor to live with dignity can be seen in all villages. The officials should work to fulfill the endeavour of the government of housing for all, he said.

The minister ordered officials to collate information on how many double bed room houses were constructed in the last 10 years? How many of them have been delivered to beneficiaries? How many are under construction? How many houses are under construction in the GHMC and how many have been given to beneficiaries?

Housing sector secretary Jyoti Buddha Prakash and other officials participated in the meeting.
