50 food poisoned with boiled eggs in Narayanpet
HYDERABAD: Like any mid-day meal, students of Maganoor Zilla Parishad School consumed boiled eggs in the afternoon but suffered food poisoning by the end of the day on Wednesday in Narayanpet. Fifty students fell sick, reporting vomiting and stomach ache. However, Narayanpet SP said no complaints were received so far.
During the mid-day meal in the school, students were served rice, boiled eggs and sambar. The boiled eggs, however, are suspected to have led to food poisoning. By 4.30 pm, students belonging to Classes VI and IX were down with symptoms and the school management immediately moved them to the Makthal Hospital which was 10 km away.
Of the 50, 34 were discharged immediately after they were given medication for vomitings.
Sixteen others were moved to Narayanpet Government Hospital among which three students were critical. Among them, six are hostellers and the rest are day scholars.
Dr K. Sowbhagyalaxmi, district medical and health officer, said the students were recovered with IV fluids and antibiotics, and the condition of three students was serious for some time. “However, all students are stable now,” she said.
Narayanpet SP Yogesh Gautam told Deccan Chronicle that they did not receive any complaint so far.
District Education Officer Abdul Ghani arrived at the Matkhal hospital and inspected the treatment. Congress MLA Vakiti Srihari visited the hospital and promised to take action against those responsible for the food poisoning.
Former BRS minister T. Harish Rao took to X (formerly Twitter) and questioned the Congress government for the negligent act. “What is actually happening in gurukulas and government schools in the state? It is not about learning lessons but it is a situation where surviving one’s life has become the goal, all thanks to the Congress government. @revanth_anumula, why are you celebrating victories? How many more students need to fall victim to your negligent attitude? We demand that the students being treated in the hospital be transferred to Hyderabad for better treatment (sic),” Harish Rao tweeted in Telugu.
