9 Indian Workers Die in Dubai Road Accident
Nizamabad: Nine Indian workers including three from the state died when a bus carrying 83 workers met with an accident at Khorfakkan in Dubai. The incident occurred on Sunday night.
The workers from M/s Darwish Engineering at Ajman were going to Khorfakkan where the bus met with the accident. Nine workers were declared dead and all of them were Indians.
Indian consulate officials visited Khorfakkan and Fujairah on Monday to find out details about the victims. They met with the injured workers in hospitals as well as driver, an Indian national, admitted in Khorfakkan hospital with minor injuries.
Nizamabad MP Arvind Dharmapuri wrote a letter to minister for external affairs S. Jaishankar over the road accident in Dubai. He said that most of the victims were from Nizamabad parliament constituency and the incident has left their families devastated.
The sudden and tragic loss has created an urgent need for support and assistance, both for the injured and the families of the deceased, he said.
Arvind urged the Uion minister to facilitate the repatriation of the accident victims who are waiting to return to their families in India.
Union minister of external affairs S. Jaishankar said that the UAE consulate was in touch with the company and it would extend all assistance and would facilitate early transportation of mortal remains to India.
The company assured that it would settle all service benefits and other compensations in respect of the deceased workers as per local laws.
The consulate has reached out to the families of the deceased, Jaishankar explained in his reply to the MP. Details of the deceased and the injured were not revealed by the authorities.
