ACB to question Umamaheshwara Rao on his links with cases under probe

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials, who filed a petition before the court seeking seven-days police custody of the CCS ACP T S Umamaheswara Rao for questioning him for amassing illegal assets, is likely to question the accused officer in connection with the Banjara Hills based businessman K Pramod Kumar's cases which were probed by the Umamaheswara Rao when he was working in CID.
Umamaheswara Rao was arrested by the ACB officials a few days ago for amassing illegal assets and shifted to judicial remand. the agency seized documents related to immovable properties. To find leads for amassing such properties, the ACB filed a petition before the court seeking police custody of the accused officer.
In March 2021, the then Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy, for reasons best known to him, issued specific orders transferring five cases registered by the city police -- three in Jubilee Hills and two in Banjara Hills — to Umamaheswara Rao, who was working as ACP in CID for further investigation, Then city police commissioner Anjani Kumar issued orders accordingly. After probing these cases, Umamaheswara Rao obtained posting as ACP, Ibrahimpatnam by transferring from CID.
