KARIMNAGAR: Animal activist A. Goutham on Tuesday filed a petition with the district legal services authority (LSA), Karimnagar urging it to protect stray animals, especially cows which are found on the roads abandoned by their owners here in Karimnagar district.

In the petition where he mentioned Karimnagar municipal commissioner and Karimnagar police commissioner as respondents, he sought implementation of the Telangana Municipal Act, 2019 concerning stray animals under the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals Act, 1960.

Goutham said stray cows which are left abandoned on roads not only face severe risks but also suffer from various health complications without proper supervision and care. They also pose health hazards to general public with their excreta in public places.

He urged the authorities to take immediate action to rescue stray cows from streets and provide them with adequate shelter along with fodder and requested the court to initiate criminal proceedings against owners for abandoning them and leaving them on the streets.
