Hyderabad: Tollywood actor star Allu Arjun was booked in a culpable homicide case and voluntarily causing hurt or grievous injuries under Section 105, 188 of the BNS Act.

“We have registered a case against Arjun and his security personnel,” confirmed Akshansh Yadav, DCP (central zone) on Thursday.

Cases have been booked by the Chikkadpally police against the unit of Pushpa 2 – The Rise, Arjun and owner of Sandhya theatre under Section 105, 118 (1) read with 3(5) under the BNS Act, Yadav told Deccan Chronicle.

Cases were booked based on a complaint by the family members of the victim who was killed in the stampede.

“We are checking the CCTV footage and recording the statements of eyewitnesses. No one informed us that Arjun would be visiting the theatre. Even the theatre management did not make any additional provisions regarding security to manage the crowd,” Yadav said.

Senior police officials said that despite the fact that a crime had occurred inside the theatre, they were in no position to secure the crime scene like with other cases.

“Closing down the theatre and having thousands of people outside would have resulted in a law and order problem. We had to strike a balance on this particular issue,” a senior police official said.

The DCP added that M. Revathi, 39, had died of suffocation while her son Sri Tej was rushed to a nearby hospital after police personnel performed CPR.
