Nizamabad: A 5-year-old boy died on NH-161 at Narsingraopally in Nizamsagar mandal of Kamareddy district when an ambulance carrying the boy hit a road divider.

Due to non-availability of a ventilator in the highway ambulance, the boy, already suffering from pneumonia, succumbed on the spot.

Sathwik of Degam village in Nanded district of Maharashtra suffered from pneumonia for last few days. For better treatment, his parents shifted him to a corporate hospital in Hyderabad. After spending Rs 9 lakh, the boy did not recover. Unable to spend more, his parents were shifting the child in an ambulance to Nanded on Thursday.

While reaching the Narsingraopally cross roads on Sangareddy-Nanded-Akola highway, the ambulance hit a road divider. His parents called for another ambulance from Deglur town in Maharashtra. Both the ambulances did not have ventilator facility and the boy succumbed.

The parents of the boy alleged that lack of facilities in ambulances killed their son. Nizamsagar police rushed to the spot and shifted the body for post-mortem. They registered a case and are investigating.
