HYDERABAD: An armed reserve (AR) constable posted in anti-snatching duty reportedly fired in the air after four robbers assaulted him physically and tried to snatch his mobile under Chilkalguda police station limits in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident occurred around 1 am at Alugadda bavi bus stop when four robbers on two bikes intercepted the constable who was dressed in mufti.
One of the robbers stopped the bike and asked for a match box. The constable was sitting alone on the bus stand bench, police said.
While one of the robbers tried to snatch his mobile, the other three pushed him on the ground. In an effective counter-offensive, he overpowered them and chased them.
When two of the robbers tried to attack him, the constable opened fire in the air, police sources said.
Later additional police and mobile teams arrested the four and reportedly detained them in the east zone DCP office in Amberpet for further
interrogation.
However, senior police officials refused to disclose the incident. The police are reportedly interrogating the robbers, who are believed to be habitual offenders.
