Hyderabad: The authorities have decided to start the exercise of clearing over 12,000 encroachments on the Musi. The operation is likely to start from Sunday.

The officials of line departments including irrigation and Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) have identified the encroachments. This task is likely to be handed over to Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA).

On Saturday, HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath held a meeting with the HMDA commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad and the officials of its town planning wing in the HMDA head office.

To start with, in the first phase the encroachments on Musi bed will be removed and then the encroachment on the full tank level (FTL) and buffer zone will be cleared in a phased manner.

Parts of Rajendranagar, Amberpet, areas around Tippu Khan Bridge, Nagole and Chaderghat are some among many locations where the illegal structures exist.

HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganth denied that they did not receive the demolition task on Musi River bed. The state government is developing the 55-km stretch along the Musi river that falls within the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
