Autorickshaw Drivers to Get Rs 1,000 Monthly Aid: Telangana Transport Minister

Hyderabad: Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that the state government is considering giving Rs 1,000 monthly aid to auto drivers. Replying to a question raised by BRS MLAs K.T. Rama Rao and others on Thursday, Ponnam Prabhakar informed the House about the welfare measures being implemented by the government for auto drivers such as tax exemptions for passenger auto rickshaws and full road tax and registration fee waivers for electric three-wheeled goods vehicles. Answering another question, the minister said that no auto driver in the state had committed suicide.

In reply to a separate question, Prabhakar informed the House in a written reply that 117.27 crore women have made free rides on TGSRTC busses by using the Mahalakshmi scheme in the last year. It resulted in `3,949.90-crore transport charges, which will be reimbursed to the corporation by the government.
