Banned CPI (Maoist) Key Member Surrenders before Mulugu Police
Hyderabad: Fifty-year-old Aluva Swarna alias Swarnakka of Potteeru Village at Kalimela Mandal in Malkangiri district, Odisha and a member of the banned CPI (Maoist) party's National Park Area committee surrendered before Mulugu district Superintendent of Police Dr. P. Shabarish on Wednesday.
He said Swarna surrendered before the police with intent of leading a peaceful life with her family, realizing the futility of Maoist ideologies. Swarna joined the banned CPI Maoist in 2000 under the encouragement of Kalimela Area Committee Commander Ramanna.
She initially worked as a member of the Protection Team led by Chattiraja Papayya alias Somanna, who was then a member of the North Telangana Special Zonal Committee (NTSZC), for three years. Later, she joined the Protection Team of Ginugu Narasimha Reddy alias Jampanna and worked for five years.
During this period, on January 16, 2005, she participated in an encounter at the Karnagandi alias Rampur forest area. In this incident, two Maoists, Nalla Vasanth alias Jagan and Thalla Sudarshan alias Ganganna, were killed, while Swarnakka and some other members escaped.
Similarly, on November 5 of the same year, she was involved in an encounter at Lingalagutta alias Paladhara Gutta, where Battu Elisha alias Mamatha died, and Swarnakka again managed to escape along with other members.
In 2006, she married Kurasa Sayanna alias Jagat, a resident of Kongala village at Wazeedu Mandal in Mulugu district. She was promoted as an Area Committee Member in 2008 and worked as a protection cadre for then Central Committee members Yapa Narayana alias Haribhushan and Ravula Srinivas alias Ramanna.
In 2015, she was transferred to West Bastar and joined the National Park Area Committee as an Area Committee Member, later serving as Sandra LOS Commander for two years.
In 2017, her husband, Kurasa Sayanna, who was the Secretary of the National Park Area Committee, died in an encounter at Gunda. Following his death, Swarnakka became mentally distressed and her health deteriorated. She later served as the president of Janatana Sarkar under the National Park Area Committee for two years.
Since 2019, she has been working as the Agriculture Department president. Currently, Swarnakka, realizing that the Maoist party has no future and that its ideologies are meaningless, decided to surrender before the Mulugu district police to live a peaceful life with her family.
On this occasion, an appeal was made to other underground Maoist leaders and members to surrender before the police. It was assured that the government would provide rehabilitation and support to those who surrender.
