Hyderabad: While the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government is going ahead with its Praja Vijayotsvalu to mark its one year in office, the BJP has decided to take the ruling party head-on, focusing its attack on the alleged unkept poll promises and failure to act against top BRS leaders in several corruption cases including Kaleshwaram scandal.

With a series of awareness programmes, the BJP wants to keep the memory of people afresh on what the Congress leaders had promised them during the Assembly elections campaign last.

The BJP had stepped up the political activity in the state capital with a day-long dharna programme at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park, extending solidarity to the Musi riverfront project victims. Many people are likely to lose their houses in the government’s ambitious programme of the Musi rejuvenation project. BJP came up with yet another programme of Musi Nidra (Musi sleep) as part of its mass outreach programmes.

Twenty senior leaders of the BJP mingled with people, enquired about their concerns about the government’s plans and slept in their houses in different colonies on the Musi riverbed. With this event, the BJP has shown that they have accepted the CM’s challenge to live with people on the Musi riverbed.

They also have managed to keep the political momentum. The BJP leaders said facing the bulldozers that demolish the houses was a bigger threat for the poor than facing mosquitoes and foul smells.

The party is also making plans to galvanise over 35 lakh party members who have enrolled in the current membership drive, with a series of mass outreach programmes with several awareness and agitation programmes on the failures of the Congress government to fulfill six guarantees, 420 assurances, besides quite a few declarations made to people before Assembly polls.

The BJP leaders said they were also working to keep the BRS. “Even when the state had witnessed several negative developments with demolitions by HYDRAA, failed paddy procurement when the farmers had produced bumper crops in this season, arrest of farmers in the Lagcherla, KCR has been confined to his farmhouse,” a senior BJP leader told Deccan Chronicle.

“It is rumored that KCR may come out to mingle with the masses with a state-wide programme as the Congress is completing one year in office. We don’t want to give political space to BRS. We are going to highlight how the Congress and BRS are shielding one another,” he said, pointing to the alleged failure to take action against BRS leaders and Chandrashekar Rao’s family members in the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scam, phone-tapping case and how both parties united to get Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi elected to the Rajya Sabha election.
