Suryapet: Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday announced that canals and irrigation tanks in the district, damaged in Sunday’s downpour, would be repaired in a week.

Accompanied by officials, the minister inspected the breach at the Nagarjunasagar left canal in Kagita Ramachandrapuram, Nadigudem mandal. He said the breaches to tanks and canals had resulted in the submergence of crops in 300 acres.
He said people of Kodad and Huzurnagar Assembly constituencies were the worst affected. A survey would be conducted in two days to ascertain the losses, Uttam Kumar Reddy said, adding the state Cabinet will deliberate on providing compensation to affected farmers and to the two families that lost relatives in the Kodad floods.The Nagarjunasagar canal breached due to the heavy inflow of water and pressure from the Palair reservoir backwaters.
Uttam Kumar Reddy asked the officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to take up the repair of the bridge at Ramapuram Cross Road.
Kodad MLA N. Uttam Padmavathi, district collector Tejas Nadlal Pawar, superintendent of police Supreeth Singh and superintendent engineer (irrigation) Ramesh Kumar accompanied the minister in the inspection.
