Cantonment to get 1 MGD more water from Thursday

Hyderabad: Secunderabad Cantonment residents will finally receive an additional 1 million gallons per day (MGD) of water supply from Thursday. The decision was confirmed during a meeting held at the Cantonment Office on Wednesday, where Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Sriganesh and and the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) met officials of the HMWS&SB including its managing director K. Ashok Reddy.

The cantonment currently receives 6.3 MGD. SCB CEO Madhukar Naik had earlier told Deccan Chronicle that HMWS&SB had sought a hefty connection charge of `24 crore, On Thursday, Sriganesh said the decision on the charge was put on the back burner.

“For some time, 0.6 MGD extra water was available for supply but couldn’t be supplied due to lack of proper coordination, which has now been fixed after the Chief Minister directed the HMWS&SB officials to speed up the process,” the MLA told Deccan Chronicle.

One of the residents, N. Ramesh Kumar, who had shared his relief at the news, said, “We have struggled with water shortages for so long. Votes were sought in the name of water and roads; this extra supply is a blessing, especially for families like ours."
