WARANGAL: The Centre must release special funds to replenish the green cover in Eturnagaram forest region in Thadvai mandal of Mulugu district that was destroyed by tornado type heavy winds two days back, panchayat raj minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka said.
More than 200 hectares of forest land were denuded of trees. An inquiry has been ordered to find more about the incident and estimate the loss with the use of drone cameras. The tornado type storm uprooted many big trees, some older than hundred years.
She expressed shock when told that nearly one lakh trees were uprooted in the Eturnagaram forest region.
Seethakka said she along with police officials had visited the place two days back when heavy rains and gusty winds halted vehicular movement between Thadvai and Medaram roads where hundreds of trees had been uprooted.
Seethakka urged the Union ministers Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay to send a special investigation team from the Centre to carry out an inquiry along with sanctioning of special funds for restoration of the green cover in the Eturnagaram forest region.
