CISF exposes irregularities of customs officers in foreign currency exchange

Three Customs officials — Y. Sreenivasu, Pankaj Gautam and Peri Chakrapani — indulged in irregularities of alleged illegal seizure of foreign currency from passengers and used their outsourcing staff to exchange with the private agents, according to CISF report.

Days after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered cases against the three accused officers, in-charge Crime and Intelligence Wing, CISF, RGIA, K. Kranthi Kumar submitted a report indicating that the internal staff indulged in exchanging of the foreign currency.

In his report, Kranthi Kumar said that on March 16, 2023 at around 7.45 am the CIW personnel of CISF, RGIA at Hyderabad apprehended four persons at city side arrival area while exchanging the foreign currency with Indian currency.

It is alleged that Om Prakash Dutta of steward Prashanti HS and L. Sanjay Pal, omullane assistant were apprehended while exchanging foreign currency of various countries with Gulam Ali and Md Sajid, residents of Bahadurpura.

It is also reported that Om Prakash acted on the directions of Y. Sreenivasu, Pankaj Gautam and Peri Chakrapani.

“USA Dollars worth `1,82,450, Saudi Riyals — `56,175, Dirhams — `44,000, Oman Riyals — 5,000, Singapore Dollars — `1000 and Kuwait Dinar — `4500. The Indian currency worth `4 lakh was exchanged at the RGIA,” the internal report disclosed.
