Hyderabad: City police commissioner C.V. Anand on Sunday discussed measures to streamline the chaotic traffic flow, at a coordination meeting with senior officials. Anand urged inspectors to work on solutions to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Based on Special Branch (SB) reports the commissioner cautioned officers of the rank of assistant commissioner of police and station house officer who were found to be generous towards traders who occupy roads and footpaths.

It is reported that an internal inquiry has been ordered against officials who had become accustomed to the monthly routine and were leaving the encroachments unattended, causing traffic jams and making it difficult for pedestrians to use footpaths, sources disclosed.

It was also reported a special team that is working under the commissioner has identified the roads that are occupied with private buses and other vehicles. Operation ROPE will be implemented to remove blocks and ensure hassle-free traffic flow, a senior police officer said.

Private buses that enter the city against the rules will be seized and criminal cases will be registered. “We have already started imposing fines and prosecuting the violators,” the officer said.

Traffic police along with GHMC officials will take stern action as per law against those encroaching on the footpaths, he said. Anand had prepared an action plan to improve the traffic flow and special drives will be organised every weekend on the commissioner’s directions, the officer said.
