Hyderabad:Police and civic officials on Monday discussed measures to be taken to prevent disruption of normal life, against the backdrop of a yellow alert — indicating severely bad weather for several days —sounded for Telangana till Friday.

The meeting, chaired by Hyderabad police commissioner C.V. Anand, was attended by municipal chief Amrapali Kata, HMDA commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed, HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath, police commissioners G. Sudheer Babu (Rachakonda), Avinash Mohanty (Cyberabad) and additional commissioner (traffic) P. Vishwa Prasad.

Anand stressed on the need to deploy quick response teams during heavy rain. Proactive response by all stakeholders was deliberated on. The remedial measures listed were effective diversion of water, transmission of live weather and traffic updates, placing of signages, and engineering modifications to prevent waterlogging.

The meeting also decided on conducting a joint workshop and forming a high-level committee comprising the traffic commissioner of the tri-commissionerate, the GHMC and other departments. This team will be liaising with IT companies to monitor levels at water bodies.
