CM Revanth unveils plans to transform historical sites along Musi River into tourist attractions

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that the state government would develop the historic buildings in the Musi catchment area into tourist attractions through the Musi Riverfront Development project. He urged industrialists to actively participate in preserving these cultural landmarks that represent Hyderabad’s rich heritage.

He was speaking at an event where the state tourism department signed an agreement with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for restoration of several ancient step wells in the city, at the Secretariat on Friday.

The Chief Minister said many historical buildings had fallen into disrepair due to the negligence of the previous governments. Among the significant projects currently underway is the restoration of the old Legislative Assembly building, which will soon house the Legislative Council. He highlighted the historical importance of Jubilee Hall, which houses the Legislative Council, and suggested that the CII take up its protection and preservation.

Revanth Reddy revealed plans for the preservation and protection of the historical building of Osmania General Hospital, with the hospital being relocated to another location. He emphasised the need to safeguard the iconic High Court building, with 100 acres of land allocated for constructing a new High Court building in Rajendranagar.

Other historic landmarks, such as the Puranapul bridge and Hyderabad City College building, were also earmarked for preservation. He stated that the Charminar conservation project works were going on at a brisk pace.

Several industrialists have come forward to restore Hyderabad's ancient step wells, transforming them into tourist attractions. Prominent companies include Infosys, which has taken up the restoration of the Mah Laqa Bai step well on the Osmania University campus, and Bharat Biotech, which will restore the Salar Jung and Ammapalli step wells.

Other notable projects include Sai Life’s adoption of the Manchirevula step well and Dodla Dairy’s commitment to the Adikmet step well. The TGSRTC has come forward to restore the Falaknuma step well and Koti Women's University will restore the Residency step well.

Revanth Reddy also launched the Telangana Darshini programme, which allows students from government schools to visit historical and tourist sites across the state for free. He explained that the intitative was aimed at educating the school pupils about the state's rich history and cultural heritage, with the necessary government orders in place. Tourism minister Jupally Krishna Rao, tourism principal secretary A. Vani Prasad, CII Telangana chairman Sai Prasad, Chief Minister’s special secretary Ajith Reddy and Chief Minister’s officer on special duty Vemula Srinivas were present at the event.
