Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is set to participate in the Christmas celebrations at Medak Cathedral, as well as the centenary of the institution, on Wednesday.

Medak Cathedral, the second-largest cathedral in Asia, holds immense historical and architectural significance. The centenary celebrations of the cathedral will feature a series of cultural and religious events, attracting visitors and pilgrims from across the country.

Nearly one lakh devotees are expected to attend the festivities, which will begin with services at 4.30 am and continue throughout the day, featuring carol singing, sermons and other celebratory activities.

This marks Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s first visit to the Medak Cathedral since assuming office. The district administration has made extensive arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the events. The cathedral has been adorned with colorful illuminations to welcome the large influx of devotees.

The centenary of Medak Cathedral will culminate with a special thanksgiving service, reflecting on its legacy and contribution to the Christian community in the region. This momentous occasion will not only mark a significant milestone for the cathedral but also bring into focus the cultural and spiritual heritage of Medak

In addition to his participation in the centenary celebrations, the Chief Minister will visit the Edupayala Vana Durga Bhavani temple in Medak. He will be the first Chief Minister to visit the temple. During his visit, the CM will offer special prayers and announce a financial package for the temple's development.

The Edupayala temple has long been a pilgrimage site of spiritual importance but has struggled with inadequate infrastructure for devotees. There is anticipation that the Chief Minister will allocate special funds to improve the temple’s facilities, addressing longstanding demands for its development.

This comes after promises made by the previous BRS government, led by former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, to allocate `100 crore for the temple’s development. However, these funds reportedly remained unutilised during the BRS regime. CM Revanth Reddy’s visit is therefore seen as an opportunity to rebuild the temple and fulfill unmet expectations.

The centenary of Medak Cathedral will culminate with a special thanksgiving service, reflecting on its legacy and contribution to the Christian community in the region. This momentous occasion will not only mark a significant milestone for the cathedral but also bring into focus the cultural and spiritual heritage of Medak.
