Hyderabad: Amid tight security, the colourful immersion of Ganesh idols commenced in the city and its suburbs on the fifth day of the festivities on Wednesday night.

Several youth and colony welfare associations, who put up Ganesh pandals for worshipping Lord Sri Ganesha, took out colourful processions in the evening dancing to the pulsating drum beats and took part in the immersion at various lakes and ponds at Safilguda, Saroornagar, NTR Ghat, Sunnam Cheruvu, IDL and Kapra, among others

While a few associations organized processions in auto trolleys and DCM vans, others, who installed more than 14-feet height Ganesh idols hired specially customized vehicles using a tractor and reached nearby lake to complete the immersion process.

The civic officials put up cranes at the lakes and tanks for the convenience of devotees to complete the immersion process in a hassle-free manner. The entire area near the water bodies were illuminated with LED lights for the convenience of devotees.

After the fifth day, devotees would organize an immersion procession on the seventh-day on September 13, ninth-day on September 15, tenth-day on September 16 and the main centralized procession on September 17, marking the culmination of the 11-day festival.

Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi said the GHMC and other departments concerned have already made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of Ganesh idol immersion. As many as 100 static and 150 mobile cranes at 50 baby ponds and 20 major lakes were arranged for the immersion. Boats, swimmers, life saving equipment along with the DRF teams were deployed at major lakes to attend to any emergency situation, officials said.
