Hyderabad: BRS leader T. Harish Rao expressed concern at the death of farmer Surender Reddy in front of the agriculture department office in Medchal and blamed the Congress for pushing farmers to desperation. He claimed that the state government was making “31 excuses0 to avoid fulfilling its loan waiver promise.

Speaking to mediapersons, he said Surender Reddy had a crop loan of `1.92 lakh. “He took the extreme step after the bank manager told him that either he or his mother with `1.15 lakh loan would get the loan waiver,” Harish Rao said. He said that farmers who were considered part of one family based on their ration cards were unable to access the loan waiver.

He also took exception to the delay in constituting the public accounts committee, public undertaking committee and the estimates committee. The decision to form these committees was taken during the Assembly session, and 38 days had passed since then, Harish Rao said.
