Convergence meeting on Operation Smile-XI held in Cyberabad

Hyderabad: The Women and Children Safety Wing (W&CSW) along with Anti-Human Trafficking (AHTU) here on Monday conducted Operation Smile-XI convergence meeting at Cyberabad Commissioner of Police office here.

The meeting was conducted to review the functioning of operation, which was formed to trace missing children and rescue those seeking alms and indulging in rag-picking, child labour, trafficking children and bonded labour, among others.

The Cyberabad police are launching the operation from January 1 to January 31 to rescue and rehabilitate homeless children and those forced into child labour and identifying children seeking alms and indulging in rag-picking.

The department formed special teams each comprising a Sub-Inspector, four police constables including a woman constable. Eleven teams were formed to identify, rescue and rehabilitate the children. In the convergence meeting, Cyberabad W&CSW DCP, K. Srujana said, “We will use facial recognition software application Darphan for identifying missing and unidentified children apart from children who were separated from their families due to various reasons.”

The DCP will supervise the operations. The operation will continue till the end of January with the support of the stakeholder departments officials” said B. James Babu, Inspector of Police, AHTU, Cyberabad.

The police have identified clusters and hotspots where children were found to be forced into labour based on the data of the previous cases. Teams along with other stakeholder departments will coordinate the rescue and rehabilitation work. Srujana requested all stakeholder departments to co-operate and co-ordinate with the teams in the operation.
