Cops Plan Mesh to Prevent Suicides on Basar Bridge
Adilabad: The police announced several measures to prevent people from jumping off the Basar Bridge in Nirmal district.
Superintendent of police Janaki Sharmila, on Wednesday, accompanied by assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Avinash Kumar, Mudhole circle inspector (CI) Mallesh, and Basar station inspector (SI) Ganesh, visited the Basar Bridge to discuss preventive strategies.
During a press conference, Sharmila revealed that the police will install 6 feet of iron mesh (Jali) along both sides of the bridge to act as a physical barrier. Additionally, CCTV cameras will be connected to the Basar Police Station to monitor the area continuously.
"We are also deploying professional swimmers who will be on standby to assist anyone attempting to commit suicide," SP Sharmila stated. "Further, two female constables and two bluecoat vehicles will be stationed at the bridge around the clock to ensure constant vigilance and rapid response."
Janaki Sharmila highlighted that half of the Basar Bridge extends into Nizamabad district and emphasised the importance of coordination with the commissioner of police to effectively implement these measures.
